Stephen Amell appeared on friend and co-star Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You to open up about his incident in a Delta flight.
On June 23, Amell and his wife Cassandra Amell were flying trying to fly from Austin to Los Angeles. Amell decided he wanted to drink before the flight but had too many and started to get drunk.
“I had too many drinks, and I had too many in a public place. And I got on a plane,” said Amell.
While boarding the flight Amell started to become unruly and yell loudly as passengers while boarding. Amell was allegedly screaming at his wife, but the actor says he doesn’t remember what made him so upset. On the podcast, he stated he wasn’t arguing with his wife or anyone. “I picked a fight because I wanted to pick a fight,” he recalled.
Amell claimed the only thing his wife was trying to do was get him to calm down and to lower his voice, fearing his outburst would result in being asked to leave the plane.
That, unfortunately for him, was how the situation ended for the couple.
“Clearly I made somebody uncomfortable and someone said something, and they made the decision, ‘You got to get off the plane?'”
Amell and his wife took a different flight home and soon after news of the incident broke. He then went on Twitter and explained what happened, “My wife and I got into an argument Monday and was asked to lower my voice and I did. Approximately 10 minutes later I was asked to leave the flight. And I did so immediately. I was not forcibly removed.”
Amell reflected on the experience and what it meant to be a celebrity, realizing how one mistake can quickly change his life and career.
“This is a weird experience that we all live in where people just sort of give you whatever you want and occasionally that leads to just not setting boundaries in your own life,” he said. “[I’m] very ashamed of it. Trying to make amends for it, specifically with my wife.”
Amell is currently starring in the wrestling drama Heels on Starz.
