This weekend’s Saturday Night Live opened the show with a sketch of Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) selling Bibles.
The joke is based on Trump’s “God Bless The USA” Bible endorsement, which he posted about on Truth Social last week. He also endorsed this Bible in the biography on his Instagram page.
The $60 Bibles include the U.S. Constitution, the Pledge of Allegiance and the words of the Miranda Rights.
Johnson’s Trump proclaimed, “That’s right, it’s Easter. The time of year when I compare myself to Jesus Christ. That’s just the thing I do now, and people seem to be okay with it. I’m going to keep doing it. If you think that this is a bad look, imagine how weird it would be if I started selling Bibles. Well, I’m selling Bibles.”
“Sounds like a joke, and in many ways it is, but it’s also very real. As you know, I love Bible. It’s my favorite book,” he added.
The SNL skit started with a reenactment of the Resurrection, with three women looking to anoint Jesus’s body, but instead, Trump revealed himself from the tomb, playing on Trump’s Truth Social posts, where he compared himself to Jesus.
