Two skydivers collided in Chester County, S.C., over the weekend, resulting in the death of one of the skydivers.
Bond Springer, 32, collided with fellow skydiver Avalon Wolf at the annual CarolinaFest skydiving festival, according to the Chester County Sheriff’s office. The skydivers, who were both experienced in the sport, had jumped from a plane in wing suits. Wolf managed to release his main parachute following the collision, saving his life. He landed with a broken leg, reported the Charlotte Observer.
Springer’s body was found Sunday morning in a wooded area near Skydive Carolina, which is near the Chester Municipal Airport. It has not yet been made known whether or not Springer attempted to release a parachute following the collision.
Neither equipment malfunction, nor drugs or alcohol are believed to be a contributing factor in Springer’s death.
“Both skydivers in the incident were experienced and executing advanced wing suit maneuvers at the time of the crash,” a statement from Skydive Carolina said. “No malfunction is believed to have occurred with any equipment and all was normal leading [up] to the collision.”
