Saturday Night Lives’s Cold Open Spoofs Will Farrell’s Sondland Confronting Alec Baldwin’s Trump

Saturday Night Live’s cold open sketch was a masterpiece with special guests Alec Baldwin, who played Donald Trump and Will Ferrell, who played U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. Baldwin as Trump used the the helicopter on the White House front lawn as an excuse to escape questions about the impeachment.

“As you can see from this very loud, running helicopter behind me, I’m in a big, big hurry right now so I don’t really have the time, but everything is perfect, ok?”

When asked about the Sondland testimony, Baldwin’s Trump said the testimony proved his innocence entirely.

“I can’t really hear you that good because of this lousy chopper behind me, but it sounds like you said Sondland’s testimony completely exonerated me and I totally agree,” he said. “I actually wrote down notes from his testimony that proves my innocence and I used the biggest, fattest, blackest magic marker I could find,” he added. “I love black magic markers, by the way, I know most people use Sharpies, they smell like licorice. ‘I want nothing, no quid pro quo, bro.’ ”

The jokes about the notes that Trump had are based on a real notepad that Trump flashed to reporters this week in which he wrote in large letters:“I WANT NOTHING. I WANT NOTHING. I WANT NO QUID PRO QUO. TELL ZELLINSKY TO DO THE RIGHT THING. THIS IS THE FINAL WORD FROM THE PRES OF THE U.S.”

Reporters ask Trump about his relationship with Sondland and he tries to suggest that he isn’t close to Sondland.

“Well I know him, but I don’t know him know him. I never, like, met him in person,” Trump said.

Sondland then walks into frame and Trump stands there awkwardly. “It’s so great to finally meet you for the first time, by the way,” says Trump. Sondland then says “Oh, right, right, right. Keep the quid pro quo on the low-low. Got it!”

Trump tries to get on the helicopter but Sondland keeps dragging Trump in the mud by saying, “Hang on, I just want to go on the record and say, you guys need to lay off my boy, everybody loves his ass: Ukraine, Russia, they’ll do anything for this man,” he says, adding, “I know, I asked.” Trump then attempts to control the situation by saying “In conclusion, no quid pro quo — ”

“Oh, there definitely was,” Sondland says with a wide grin.

This SNL episode also gives us the Democratic Debate Skit including guest stars Maya Rudolph, Larry David and Woody Harrelson.
