Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7: Perfect For Work And Play

Samsung has perfected the art of the functional phablet. The Korean company’s latest smartphone-tablet hybrid was unveiled at its “Unwrapped” event in New York City. Skipping a full number upgrade, Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 will be available for purchase on August 19th and is taking on its competitors with innovative features, including an iris scanner.

Samsung Releases The Galaxy Note 7

The internal makeup of the Note7 is similar to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Engadget reports, “The US version of the Note7 packs a quad-core, Snapdragon 820 chipset, an Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM.” If users need more than the built-in 64GB of storage the phone provides, there’s a spot to insert a 256GB microSD card. It’s also got a 12-megapixel camera with dual pixel autofocus. The phablet is conveniently IP68 water-resistant up to depths of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Critics love the Note7’s clean design and sleek 5.7-inch, Super AMOLED screen. The AMOLED screen is ideal for viewing higher definition displays with a lot of pixels. When paired with Samsung’s Gear VR, users will experience a unique mobile virtual reality experience.

The Galaxy Note7’s New Iris Scanner

Security features abound in the Note7. Samsung Knox — a security feature that helps users securely separate personal and professional data — is combined with biometric authentication to further improve the functionality of the phone for work and play. The iris scanner is unique to the Note7 and gives the phone the ability to read users’ eyes and enable quick access to the phone. An infrared transmitter enables the scanner and is located near the front-facing camera at the top of the phone. The Note7 also comes packed with a fingerprint scanner under the Home button.

DJ Koh, the president of Samsung Electronic’s Mobile Communications Business, said: “The Galaxy Note7 combines productivity, entertainment with strong security features. Powering a robust ecosystem, it is the ideal device for those who want to achieve more in life.”

Users can also purchase the phablet with the Note7 S Pen. Modeled after a ballpoint pen, the S pen has a 0.7mm tip and improved pressure sensitivity. Apps that work with the pen are combined into Samsung Notes and allow users to store handwritten notes, drawings and edit photos. The S pen serves as both a writing tool and a means of navigating the phone’s features quickly and efficiently. Users can create and share GIF animations with Smart Select. The pen also enables users to zoom in on the screen and convert languages.

Pre-order your Samsung Galaxy Note7 at Best Buy for $349.99.
