Rumer Willis Says Dad Bruce Willis Is Doing ‘Great’ Amid Dementia Battle, Credits Him With Giving Her Great Parenting Skills

Actress Rumer Willis revealed that she has relied on her parents’ example as she co-parents her baby daughter.

In August, Willis revealed that she and her ex-boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, with whom she shares their 21-month-old daughter Louetta, separated.

In an episode of the British show Loose Women on Monday, Willis was asked if she had taken any co-parenting advice from her own parents, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. Moore and Bruce share their daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah; the former couple split in 1998 after 16 years of marriage.

Rumer declared, “Absolutely, I think the thing that I’m the most grateful for is that even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritizing my sisters and I… that I never felt like I had to choose. They never played against each other.”

She continued, “Not only did I feel like that has set me up in my life to have such [a] beautiful foundation of my own family, but now as I’m working through co-parenting as well… I just feel deep gratitude for the example they’ve set, and I feel like the example they’ve set has been not only for me, but I think a lot of people have looked at them as an example of that.”

In October, Rumer described her co-parenting experience to People, “We have found an amazing way to keep our friendship and our loving co-parenting relationship. And I think both of us are so happy that we can have that for ourselves as well as for Lou.”

On Monday. Rumer also gave an update on her father’s health. Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and communication disorder aphasia in 2022.

Rumor informed, “He’s doing great…I think, [same] as many people in California, the thing we’re all kind of most scared of dealing with is just the fires and wanting to make sure everything is OK.”

The family recently celebrated Moore’s 2025 victory at the Golden Globes, where she was awarded the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her role in The Substance. This was Moore’s first major award of her career.

Rumer gushed on Instagram at the time, “What a gift to witness you shine and be acknowledged not only for the incredible work you did in this film but in the multitude of staggeringly breathtaking work your entire career.”
