On June 30, Variety‘s Owen Gleiberman published an essay Renee Zellweger: If She No Longer Looks Like Herself Has She Become a Different Actress?
The essay criticized Zellweger’s change in appearance and was met with loads of backlash.
Rose McGowan recently joined the conversation in defense of Zellweger in a response essay in the Hollywood Reporter.
McGowan scolds Gleiberman, “Renee Zellweger is a human being. How dare you use her as a punching bag in your mistaken attempt to make a mark at your new job.”
McGowan did not hold back as she wrote, “Here’s some truth: Men like you and the women who sit idly by and say nothing should know that aiding and abetting is a moral crime, and if it were punished in Hollywood, most of you would be in some form of jail.”
She then replaced Zellweger’s name with male actors to show the double standard of Gleiberman’s argument. She referenced actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp among others.
