Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Spotify Podcast ‘Archetypes’ Cancelled

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s podcast, Archetypes, will not be renewed for a second season. In a joint statement they released they wrote, “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”

A second season was discussed due to the success of the first season, but they recently decided against it.

The goal of the podcast, according to Markle, was to “investigate, dissect, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back.”

The first series had 12 episodes and started in August 2022. It starred many famous celebrities, including Mindy Kaling, Paris Hilton, Serena Williams, Jameela Jamil, Constance Wu, Mariah Carey and more. It even won a People’s Choice Award in for the top podcast.

Markle wrote about how passionate she was about pursuing this podcast and on the Archewell website.

She, “loved digging my hands into the process, sitting up late at night in bed, working on the writing and creative.”

She continued on to discuss how she, “loved digging deep into meaningful conversation with my diverse and inspiring guests, laughing and learning with them.”

She and Harry released a joint statement when they announced Archetypes

“What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction,” they said. “With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other’s stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are,” referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The deal with Spotify first was struck in 2020 for about $20 million.
