During a Monday procession in Scotland to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Andrew was heckled by a young man.
The official procession coverage shows the man yelling, “Andrew! You’re a sick old man!” After that moment, the audio was muted, so it’s unclear what else was said.
Folks around the heckler were quick to respond, pulling him out of the way. Some of them began chanting, “God save the king.”
Prince Andrew, King Charles III, Princess Anne and Prince Edward all walked together in the procession from Holyroodhouse to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
The Prince’s lack of popularity isn’t surprising, given his involvement with infamous sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. On August 9, 2021, Virginia Giuffre alleged that Epstein trafficked her to Prince Andrew when she was 17 years old. The Prince agreed to settle the lawsuit in February 2022 for about $10 million.
Giuffre’s lawyer, David Boies, wrote in a letter to the court, “[Prince Andrew] accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks. It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years.”
The letter continued, “Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.”
The Prince has maintained his innocence since the accusation was first made publicly.
Prince Andrew left his royal duties after making things considerably worse for his image in a November 2019 BBC Newsnight interview. During the PR nightmare segment, he noted that Epstein had “the most extraordinary people together, and that’s the bit I remember… I mean it was a cosmopolitan group of what I would describe as U.S. eminents.”
At the time, Prince Andrew wrote in a statement, “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work.” He added, “Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”
Queen Elizabeth II “died peacefully” at 96 years old on September 8. Though he is the most unpopular member of the royal family according to polls, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will inherit The Queen’s iconic corgis.
