Netflix announced in a tweet on Monday that the former first couple, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, have signed a deal to produce movies and series with the streaming service.
President Obama expressed his enthusiasm to work with Netflix.
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” President Obama said. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix – we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
Michelle Obama also shared in President Obama’s excitement and said Netflix is the best fit for what the two want to produce.

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama said. “Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”
Originally, talk of a potential partnership between the Obamas and Netflix began in March when the New York Times reported they were collaborating on a high-profile project.

Netflix also announced that the two have started a company called “Higher Ground Productions” to produce content for Netflix.
The agreement has been said to give the Obamas a platform to discuss issues and themes they had encountered during his two-term presidency. However, President Obama said he will not use these movies and series to directly respond to his successor President Trump or to conservative media outlets.
