Olivia Newton-John Says She’s Thriving Despite Cancer Diagnosis

Contrary to reports, Australian actress Olivia Newton-John wants the world to know that she is healthy and thriving.

Newton-John has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time in her career. Her first bout with cancer was in 1992, when she found out she had breast cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer of the shoulder in 2013 after a car accident. This time, the cancer has spread into her lower back.

Newton-John has told reporters that she still feels full of life. Online news outlet RadarOnline even claimed that her body was shutting down. The rumors were so wide-spread that her agent had to dispel the rumors by speaking to the press. Her niece Tottie Goldsmith posted a photo to Instagram to help clear up Newton-John’s near-death rumors.

Newton-John continues to support the fight against cancer. In 2008, she rallied supporters to walk the Great Wall of China with her, in order to raise funds for her research center. In her hometown of Melbourne, Australia, Newton-John currently funds her own hospital and research center, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre.

The singer is continuing to raise funds to help fight the fires that have ravished the Australian landscape. Newton-John, and stars such as Queen and Alice Cooper, performed last week at the Fire Fight Australia 2020 fundraiser. So far, their collective efforts have yielded $50 million that goes directly to funding the firefighters.

Newton-John first gained her fame in the iconic musical Grease in 1979. She and her co-star John Travolta achieved pop stardom from their hit song “You’re the One That I Want,” when it went on to become one of the best-selling singles in history. From there, Newton-John created music and performed for 20 more years, before starting a family of her own.
