Supergirl on The CW has announced a new foe for the upcoming second season: Metallo.
John Corben, aka Metallo, will go up against both Supergirl and Superman, who was announced earlier this summer to be played by Tyler Hoechlin. This should come as no surprise, considering much of the show’s story lines have been adapted from the Superman comics before the introduction of Supergirl. The villain will be played by Frederick Schmidt and will appear in the season opener on Oct. 10.
The Metallo character has previously been portrayed by Brian Austin Green and Dominic Downer in Smallville, and by Scott Valentine in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Metallo is described as an “international assassin” who “is badly injured” after he is defeated by Supergirl and Superman, and then “is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain.”
Schmidt’s Metallo will appear in at least one more episode following the season premiere.
