Melania Trump Told Donald Trump He’d ‘Screwed Up’ Covid-19 Response: ‘You’re Blowing This’

“You’re blowing this,” Melania Trump said, warning her husband about the severity of the virus during the outset of the pandemic.

The former President’s response was “you worry too much – forget it.”

The new book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021, reveals this exchange between the former President and First Lady, who had very different ideas on the Covid pandemic.

Donald Trump has been widely criticized for his weak Covid-19 response.

Other sources, such as the book by Michael Bender‘s Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost, describes Melania as “uncomfortable” during the pair’s many social gatherings, including a 2020 holiday gala at Mar-a-Lago that had 500 guests RSVP prior to the event.

In the same book, it is claimed that Melania attempted to limit the number of guests. It paints a picture of a personal rift between the former President and First Lady that may seem at odds with her attendance at these social events, including being present for multiple rallies.

Another excerpt from Baker and Glasser’s book claims that Melania felt “rattled by the coronavirus and convinced that Trump was screwing up.”

Melania reportedly turned to Chris Christie, former New Jersey Governor, to help her convince Trump of the situation’s severity.

Donald Trump shifted his approach to Covid-19 numerous times during his presidency.

Initially the former president claimed the virus as much like the flu, then for a short time promoted masks, then made fun of mask-wearers and denounced many of the CDC precautions.

Trump even mocked President Joe Biden for wearing a mask during the Presidential debates.

Melania did not see the situation as a laughing matter, calling the Covid-19 pandemic “serious” and predicting “it’s going to be really bad.”

Melania reportedly also told former President “you need to take it more seriously than you’re taking it.”

The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021 is set to arrive on September 20.
