Meghan Markle Glows In Givenchy Wedding Dress By Clare Waight Keller

Meghan Markle donned a Givenchy dress, designed by the artistic director of French fashion house Givenchy, British designer Clare Waight Keller.

Keller became the first female artistic director at Givenchy in 2017, so the choice of this particular fashion house could’ve been a political statement from Markle, who is known to take a feministic stance. Givenchy has also confronted the lack of diversity on high-fashion catwalks, which also aligns with Markle’s values.

The three-quarter sleeved gown is a pure white that scooped just below Markle’s collarbone and cascaded behind her as she walked.

Markle’s dress is made of double-bonded silk cady and has an underskirt in triple silk organza.

The veil is about 16-feet long, which was hand-embroidered with floral details to represent all 53 countries of the Commonwealth. Markle also chose to add her favorite flowers, the Wintersweet, which is found in Kensington Palace, and the California poppy to symbolize her home in the United States.

Hundreds of hours went into the creation of the veil. Dressmakers washed their hands every 30 minutes while manipulating the delicate silk threads and organza.

Markle wore Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which was lent to her by the Queen of England, to keep the veil in place. At the center of the tiara, there is a detachable brooch of 10 brilliant diamonds that was originally a wedding gift to Queen Mary in 1893. It was later made into the tiara in 1932.

The diamonds in the tiara weren’t the only sparkling feature of Markle’s look, for she also wore Cartier earrings and bracelet.

Markle’s bouquet was comprised of flowers of the private garden at Kensington Palace, hand-picked by Prince Harry, as well as scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, astrantia and sprigs of myrtle.

The shoes were based on a Givenchy pointed couture design, made of silk duchess satin.

The entire look reflects Givenchy’s work with actress Audrey Hepburn, who continues to be a fashion icon of timeless, classic couture.
