Madonna held a surprise concert in Washington Square Park in New York City Monday night to urge people to vote for Hillary Clinton today.
A crowd gathered, not exactly sure what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised when it was Madonna who showed up around 7:30 p.m. “This concert is about unifying us,” Madonna told the crowd as she walked out with her guitar, a fellow musician and her son David. “How are we going to keep America great? We are going to elect a president who does not discriminate against women, who does not discriminate against the LGBT community, who does not discriminate against people of color, that does not want to build a wall around our country and separate us from the rest of the world. This is a concert about peace.”
She played a a bunch of her hit songs, from “Don’t Tell Me” to “Like A Prayer,” telling off Clinton rival Donal Trump between each song. The crowd-stopper came when she performed John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which seemed to leave the crowd breathless.
The concert was done in the round, with crowds surrounding Madonna. “Tomorrow’s the big day,” she announced. “Do we want to become the laughing stock of the planet?” She finished off the set with a song that merged Peter Seeger’s “If I Had a Hammer” with her own recent hit “Rebel Heart.” She interjected during the song, “Save this country, vote for Hillary Clinton.”
The evening ended with the Clinton-themed flash mob Pantsuit Power, which gained viral fame earlier this year.
