Kanye West filed for a legal name change according to court documents.

West will look to change his name to only “Ye,” forgoing a middle or last name. His current legal name is Kanye Omari West.

The document was filed on Tuesday, August 24 in Los Angeles. The explanation for the change given on the documents was “personal reasons.” The documents were also dated August 11, almost two weeks before they were turned into the court.

West has been going by Ye for multiple years at this point. He famously declared that he would be going by Ye in a Tweet posted in September 2018. “I am YE,” he wrote.

West, who is 50 years old, is known for being a hip-hop and rap artist. He is also well-known for his roles in fashion and business. The Chicago native has released 10 studio albums. His first album, The College Dropout, debuted in 2004 and was celebrated by fans and critics. He then released hit projects such as Late RegistrationGraduation808s & Heartbreak, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy between 2005 and 2010. More recently, he released Yeezus in 2013, along with The Life Of Pablo and Ye in 2016 and 2018. He most recently released a Christian music album titled Jesus is King in 2019.

West has also made waves in the fashion world. He began working with Adidas in 2013, as the company revealed a shoe collaboration with West. He then unveiled the YEEZY Season One clothing line in 2015, another Adidas collaboration. Today, his Yeezy shoe line is one of the most famous and coveted shoe lines in the world.

West’s upcoming album, Donda, has experienced multiple delays. It was originally scheduled to release in 2020 but was eventually pushed back to August 6, 2021. The project is currently unavailable, however, with the date of release still unknown.
