Jon Paul Steuer, the child actor known for his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation as the first person to play Alexander Rozhenko, has died at 33.
Steuer had transitioned his career from actor to musician and restauranteur. According to reports, Steuer died on January 1, although a cause of death is still to be determined.
The actor was born in Escondido, California, in 1984. Steuer starting his acting career at the young age of 3, and went on to play roles such as Klingon Alexander – son of Worf and Ambassador K’Ehley, Alexander Rozhenko, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Quentin Kelly in the television series Grace Under Fire.
Steuer quit acting at the age of 12. In an interview in 2015, Steuer explained that working on Grace Under Fire ruined his passion for acting and the industry as a whole. “I wanted to forge on with acting after quitting the show, and I went out on a few interviews,” he said. “But even then they’d turn into question-and-answer sessions with casting agents about Grace Under Fire. I was kind of blown away by how unprofessional people inside the industry were. It really soured me. I didn’t want that kind of attention.”
Steuer then launched a music career after his final acting role in the comedic film Little Giants in 1994. Steuer then began to perform as a musician under the stage name Jonny P Jewels.
In March 2015, Steuer, along with chef Sean Sigmon, opened up a successful vegan restaurant in Portland, Oregon Harvest at the Bindery.
