In the early days of the pandemic, there was Tiger King. The true-crime docuseries provided comfort to many when lockdowns first settled in place.
The series revolved around larger-than-life Joe Exotic and his nemesis, animal rights activist Carole Baskin. Their conflict revolved around the tiger zoo that Exotic ran and Baskin’s attempt to shut him down. Exotic had already made many attempts to increase his fame himself through a web series and music videos, but Tiger King catapulted him into internet fame.
Things did not end well for Exotic. He was found guilty of having hired hitmen to kill Baskin and sentenced to 22 years of jail. Other charges included wildlife violations involving killing five tigers and illegally selling and attempting to sell big cats. Baskin had taken over Exotic’s property in the legal fallout.
Now, Baskin has sold Exotic’s former zoo to an unknown Oklahoma couple. “When we sold the property in June, we required that it never be used as a zoo, or for anything related to Tiger King or anything like that,” she told Yahoo.
Baskin and her husband Howard Baskin have moved onto further creative exploits, including a documentary titled Shooting Joe Exotic and continuing to pursue her interest in animal rights.
