In 2008, Jodi Arias was convicted for the first-degree murder of her boyfriend Travis Alexander and sentenced to life in prison. Arias’s case exploded in the media when she started giving TV interviews before the trial had even started. She also spoke to reporters about her verdict despite her attorney’s advising her against it. After receiving a 25-to-life sentence, Arias is trying to overturn the sentence 11 years later.
Arias argues that Judge Juan Martinez has been hindering her case by involving the media. Arias’s lawyers claim that the judge failed to keep the courtroom fair for the defendant and turned it into a circus by not restricting the attendance of journalists at the trial. A representative for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office stated that publicity has not led to any prejudice against Arias in the case.

In addition, Martinez is currently being accused of sexually harassing female coworkers for verbally harassing them with statements like, “I want to climb you like a statue.” He has been accused of trying to keep the harassment under wraps by lying and intimidating the victimized women.
