Jimmy Fallon Gets Intimate Singing With Robot Named Sophia [VIDEO]

Things got weird when Jimmy Fallon sang with a robot on Wednesday. The Tonight Show host appeared to have enjoyed it though.

Sophia the robot is an artificially intelligent humanoid developed by Hanson Robotics. She first garnered attention for being the world’s first robot citizen when Saudia Arabia granted her citizenship.

Sophia claims she can sing along to songs using a new artificial-intelligence tool. “I love to sing karaoke using my new artificial-intelligence voice,” the robot said to Fallon.

During the robot-themed episode, Fallon sang A Great Big World’s hit “Say Something” alongside Sophia. Here’s the video below. Their duet starts at 6:55.

Sophia later thanked Fallon for appearing on the show, tweeting “Thank you for having us @FallonTonight and @jimmyfallon! I had so much fun singing and catching up with you! #FallonTonight #SophiaonFallon.”

However, the performance wasn’t without its detractors. Yann LeCun, Facebook’s former head of AI research, called the robot an “animatronic puppet” instead of an intelligent creation.
