Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy Super Suit Revealed For Season 3 Of ‘The Boys’

Amazon Prime has released the long-overdue first look of Jensen Ackles in his Soldier Boy Super Suit for season three of the series The Boys.

Known in the DC Comics universe, Soldier Boy is a superhero who is the leader of the Payback, created by Compound V in the 1940s who fought in World War II. He is known for killing large numbers of Nazi soldiers, becoming one of the first superhero celebrities in American culture. He is considered to be a parody of Captain America.

“Mostly [he is] just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander,” The Boys creator Eric Kripke told Variety. “One of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history. He was Homelander before Homelander, so he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition.”

Soldier Boy is able to dodge punches and bullets effortlessly and uses his shield as a weapon. Ackles took to Instagram to debut his weaponry saying: “Every dent, every scratch, every mark tells a story. A story that ends with me, winning. 😏#SoldierBoy #SoldierBoyShield ”

Ackles’ suit was designed by concept artist Greg Hopwood and Laura Jean Shannon.

“Soldier Boy is the original badass,” Shannon shared. “Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree, we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old-school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.”

Kripke knew the importance of the Super Suit due to Soldier Boy’s reputation as a fan favorite in the DC comics. “When I cast Jensen as Soldier Boy, the first thing I said was, ‘I’m most excited for you, because of the amazing process you’ll go through with LJ, our Super Suit designer,” stated Kripke.

“It took six months but the experience surpassed Jensen’s expectations,” Kripke revealed. “LJ has made a work of art that tips its hat to the WWII Soldier Boy from the comics while taking it in a sleek new direction. And if you think the photos are cool, just wait till you see Jensen in action. It’s one of my very favorite suits. Also, now you can quit clogging my Twitter notifications with demands to see it.”

Ackles and Kripke have previously worked together on Supernatural, which lasted 15 seasons. Season 3 of The Boys is currently in production and is set to release in early 2022.
