Jennifer Lopez has been cast as Griselda Blanco, the infamous leader of the drug trade in Miami in the 70s and 80s, in an HBO TV movie.
The film will follow Blanco through her rise, fall, and death as kingpin of one of the most powerful, and most violent, drug cartels of the time. Convicted of three murders, and probably responsible for dozens more, Blanco spent nearly 20 years in prison in the United States before she was sent back to her home country of Colombia in 2004. Blanco was shot dead in her hometown of Medellín in 2012.
“I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years,” Lopez told The Hollywood Reporter. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”
Lopez will not only star but will also serve as the executive producer of the film. Currently, Lopez stars in and executive produces Shades of Blue, an NBC drama gearing up for its season two. She will also be an executive producer on a new NBC dance show, ‘World of Dance.’ Lopez continues her famed musical as well, releasing a new single in April of this year. Check it out below.
