Jay Z has announced he will play a concert in Ohio to increase young black voter turnout in this year’s presidential election.
The rapper, who has already announced his support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, is hoping his performance will encourage voters to vote for Clinton as well. Ohio, being a swing state, will be extremely important in the election.
Clinton’s campaign has been trying to appeal to black voters. Black voter turnout was at record highs during the 2008 and 2012 elections, and Clinton hopes to keep that momentum going. Jay Z also performed during those election seasons. Clinton has teamed up with Mother of the Movement in her efforts to reform the criminal justice system and to address police brutality toward African Americans.
Jay Z’s concert is now set for Nov. 4, and it will be one in a string of Clinton campaign concerts, including one with Jennifer Lopez in Miami on Oct. 29.
