Jamie Spears Demands $2 Million Fees To Resign As Britney’s Conservator

Jamie Spears, Britney Spears‘ father, is demanding $2 million in separation payments before stepping down as her conservator. James Spears insists that he is only acting in his daughter’s “best interests.”

Britney Spears entered a conservatorship with her father, James, in 2008. Since then he has played a large role in managing Spears’ finances and having a strong influence over her entire life. The conservatorship was extended indefinitely due to Spears’ mental health struggles. However well-meaning the initial arrangement may have been, over the course of 13 years, the conservatorship has developed into something far more insidious. While Jamie Spears seems to be benefiting greatly from the conservatorship, Spears herself feels trapped and abused.

Spears said that out of fear of her father, she had stopped performing. She also alleged that her father has had unprecedented control over her body, forcing her to stay on birth control while Spears herself wanted another child.

A #FreeBritney movement sprung up around the alleged abuse Spears experienced, but it wasn’t until very recently was there a visible change in the situation. Spears and her father have been in and out of court as Spears attempts to end her conservatorship.
