George Zimmerman Punched In Face For Bragging About Trayvon Martin’s Death

George Zimmerman was punched in the face on Sunday, Aug. 1 at a restaurant in Florida for bragging about his role in the murder of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in a Sanford community in February 2012. Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter on July 13, 2013, triggering nationwide protests on police brutality and race relations.

George Zimmerman Punched After Talking About Killing Trayvon Martin

According to Sanford police, Zimmerman was having dinner at Gators Riverside Grille when the incident happened. A diner, known as “Eddie,” overheard the conversation and asked, “you’re bragging about that?” Zimmerman recently came under fire for putting the pistol he used to end Martin’s life up for auction.

The fight escalated after the man left the restaurant and came back shortly after to ask Zimmerman why he was still there before punching him in the face. Zimmerman dialed 911 and told the police he was accused of bragging about killing the 17-year-old teenager.

“The man just punched me in the face. He said he was going to kill me,” Zimmerman told the authorities.

There are some conflicting accounts of what happened Sunday at the restaurant. According to an interview with the New York Daily News, Edward Winters, the Gators Riverside’s owner, said, “They shoved each other and that was the end.”

No arrests have been made involving the incident and investigators are still looking for the main aggressor.
