Ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Subpoenaed On The House Floor In Trial Against Her Husband’s Attacker

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) announced to Congress that she was issued a subpoena as part of the federal investigation into the attack on her husband in 2022.

Paul Pelosi, 83, was attacked by David DePape, 42, who broke into the former speaker’s home in San Francisco and beat her husband with a hammer. Paul was hospitalized and underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture, among other injuries.

DePape was indicted in November 2022 on two counts of attempted kidnapping of a federal officer or employee and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official.

He faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.

“This is to notify you formally, pursuant to Rule Eight of the rules of the House of Representatives, that I, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emerita, and U.S. Representative for the 11th Congressional District of California, have been served with third-party subpoenas from the prosecution and the defendant to produce documents in a criminal case and United States District Court for the Northern District of California,” read the House Clerk during floor proceedings.

“After consultation with the Office of General Counsel, I have determined that compliance with the subpoenas is consistent with the privileges of the House to the extent it requires the production of nonprivileged information. The responses to the subpoenas will be identical,” Pelosi said in her statement.

The trial is scheduled to begin on November 13, during which the former speaker is expected to take the stand.
