After the largest shooting in American history in Las Vegas, it is no surprise that many have felt traumatized and powerless in their lives. Country singer Eric Church confessed his own trauma during a concert on October 6 in his new song “Why Not Me.”
The Grammy-nominated artist had performed at the Route 91 Harvest music festival just days before the brutal and tragic deaths of 58 people. Church became close to tears while declaring that those who had fallen were “[his] people… [his] fans,” and that “the place where [he] stood was carnage.”
He pointed towards two empty seats, bought by a couple who planned on attending the concert, Sonny and Heather Milton. However, Sonny was killed in the shooting while protecting his wife, leaving her traumatized.
Before revealing his new song, Church stated, “I am going to tell you something, the reason I am here, the reason I am here tonight is because of Heather Melton and her husband Sonny, who died.” And every person that was there. Because let me tell you something, I saw that crowd. I saw them with their hands in the air. I saw them with boots in the air. What I saw, that moment in time that was frozen, there’s no amount of bullets can take away. None.”
