Elton John started the New Year winning an award when he picked up a Golden Globe for Rocketman original song, “I’m Gonna Love Me Again,” on Sunday.
Right after receiving the award from Dakota Fanning and Asnel Elgort, John and co-writer Bernie Taupin expressed gratitude towards the HFPA and distinguished that their original song was much more than just a song in the film.
“This is really sweet because this is not a song we wrote about a movie … [it] deals with our relationship,” Taupin said.
He also expressed that the relationship between he and John share, which he titled a “52-year-old marriage,” isn’t “one that happens very much in this town.”
John said it was “one of the most emotional moments in my life.”
John and Taupin won over fellow nominees including Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez; Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber; Brian Campbell: and Cynthia Erivo.
