Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his singer partner, Grimes, announced the birth of their first child together, a baby boy, via Twitter on May 5. Musk by replied “mom & baby all good” to a tweet asking if there was any news on the newborn.

Musk, who is already the father of five other children from a previous marriage, is known to joke. He shared a photo of his newborn son on Twitter, using a filter that covered the baby’s face in tattoos. Musk captioned it “never to young for some ink haha.”

The name of the baby was also asked, and Musky replied “X Æ A-12 Musk.”

The explanation to the name has been trending on Twitter as well as theories for how the name will be pronounced. A few hours later, Grimes tweeted the meaning of the name by explaining that X stands for the unknown variable, Æ is her “elven spelling of Ai (love &/or artificial intelligence)” and A-12 is a “precursor SR-17 ([their] favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.” Grimes also stated that A stands for Archangel, which is her favorite song, with no mention of who the artist is.

Æ was used in old english and is still considered a letter in languages such as Danish and Icelandic. This letter is pronounced as “ash.” Grimes has used the letter Æ previously in her song titled “4 Æ M.” Someone asked on Twitter if the baby’s name would be pronounced as “X ash archangel” and Musk liked the comment. There has been no other mention of how the baby’s name will be pronounced.

In 2019, Grimes, who was legally known as Claire Elise Boucher, changed her name to “C” because the name Claire, as she told Culture magazine, had been “plaguing” her. Grimes expressed that she wanted the baby to go by C too because it is the symbol for the speed of light.
