Donald Trump apologized Friday night in a Facebook video after a tape surfaced in which he used sexual terms to describe kissing, groping and attempting to have sex with women, all while he was married to Melania Trump. “I said it, I was wrong, I apologize,” Trump said in the video.
The tape was taken in 2005, when Trump was bantering with Hollywood Access host Billy Bush on a promotional bus for the show. The two were talking before filming a segment on Trump’s appearance on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Inside the bus, a recording of Trump was taken where he talks about a failed attempt to seduce a married woman.
“I did try and f— her. She was married,” Trump said.
“I’m automatically attracted to beautiful women — I just start kissing them, it’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” he said in the 2005 conversation. “Grab ’em by the p–sy.”
The tape was made a few months after Trump married his third wife Melania.
Subsequently, Trump tweeted that “Bill Clinton has said worse to me on the golf course.”
Bush also stated he was “embarrassed” by the conversation, but justified it with the fact that he was “younger, less mature, and acted foolishly” eleven years ago.
Trump has been criticized for his remarks by Hillary Clinton and even members of the Republican Party. House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said he was “sickened” by Trump’s comments. RNC chairman Reince Preibus said, “No woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner. Ever.”
Trump has been repeatedly criticized for offensive remarks toward women, including insults such as “slob” and “pig” directed at female foes. Polls show that only 24% of women view the presidential candidate favorably.
