Ever since Captain America: Civil War came out, Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man has become one of the most popular characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character has gained even more success with his appearances in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. With the third MCU Spider-Man movie coming out next year, there have been a few announcements that have been released recently. Fans were already shocked when it was announced that Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro but were even more surprised when it was announced that Benedict Cumberbatch would be appearing as Doctor Strange in the upcoming third film.

Cumberbatch and Holland previously appeared together on screen in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It will be interesting to see these two interact, as they were only briefly able to do so in Avengers: Infinity War. Doctor Strange will be the third character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be a supporting superhero character in a Spider-Man movie. The first hero to be a supporting character in a Spider-Man film was Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming while the second person to do so was Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home. With the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange being titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and set to be released after the third Spider-Man film, it is possible that this movie will introduce the multiverse after it was falsely teased in Spider-Man: Far From Home. While pretty much nothing has been revealed about certain aspects regarding the film like the story or who the villain will be, fans are still speculating on how Peter Parker will interact with Doctor Strange and how he and Foxx’s Electro will factor into the story of the film.

The untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released sometime in 2021. Fans of the character can look forward to see him team up with Doctor Strange before he finally appears in his own sequel.
