Actress Cynthia Nixon took shots at Andrew Cuomo after the former New York was stripped of his Emmy Award.
Nixon took to Twitter for her strike against Cuomo. “The difference between me and Andrew Cuomo? Neither of us is governor, but I still have my Emmy(s),” Nixon wrote. Nixon and Cuomo competed against each other in the 2018 Democratic Primary for Governor.
Cuomo was stripped of his Emmy on August 24, as announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He originally won the award for his daily coronavirus briefings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The International Academy announced today that in light of the New York Attorney General’s report, and Andrew Cuomo’s subsequent resignation as Governor, it is rescinding his special 2020 International Emmy® Award. His name and any reference to his receiving the award will be eliminated from International Academy materials going forward,” read the academy’s statement.
Cuomo, 63, officially resigned on August 24, after making the announcement on August 10. His resignation came after a report was released by Letitia James, New York’s state attorney general. This report contained 11 sexual harassment allegations made by different women. Nine of them worked for the New York state government.
Cuomo has not admitted to any wrongdoing, and he claims he stepped down so that the government could continue to function efficiently. “I think that given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to governing,” he stated in a press conference.
Nixon is best known for her work on Sex and The City as Miranda Hobbes. She won an Emmy for her role on the show in 2004. She claimed an Emmy in 2008 for her work as a guest actor on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The 55-year-old has also appeared in a multitude of other television shows and films throughout her career.
