Chrissy Teigen Leaves ‘Never Have I Ever’ Amid Bullying Scandal

Chrissy Teigen has decided to exit season two of Mindy Kaling‘s show Never Have I Ever in the wake of her cyberbullying scandal. Season one featured narration from such stars as tennis player John McEnroe and comedian Andy Samberg. Teigen was to have taken on this voiceover role in season two.

The show follows Indian-American high school student Devi as she navigates her teenage years. The new season is set to premiere in July. A spokesperson for Never Have I Ever said in a statement, “Chrissy Teigen has decided to step away from a guest voiceover role in one episode of the upcoming second season of Never Have I Ever. The role is expected to be recast.”

The controversy with Teigen started when it was revealed that she cyberbullied Courtney Stodden. As a 16-year-old Stodden married actor Doug Hutchinson, who was 50 years old at the time. She later became a television personality and divorced Hutchinson in 2020. In May, Stodden opened up about the messages she received from celebrities, including Teigen.

Stodden gave a statement about past interactions with Teigen, saying the celebrity “wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die.’ And not only her, but Joy Behar had a field day with calling me a ‘slut.’ Courtney Love told me I was a ‘whore.’ People came out of the woodwork to beat up on a kid because she was in a situation that she shouldn’t have been in. There were a lot of celebrities acting like playground bullies.”

Teigen apologized to Stodden in a series of tweets. “I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be,” she said. “I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel. I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.”

Stodden responded to Teigen’s apology, saying, “I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”

Stodden remains blocked on Teigen’s Twitter.
