You might remember Chris Watts as the Colorado father who was videotaped begging for the safe return of his family. He even called it “a nightmare that I just can’t wake up from,” and claimed, “I have no inclination of where they’re at.”
But earlier this month, Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant 34-year-old wife Shan’ann Watts, and their daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste. On Monday, a jury sentenced him to life in prison.
Now, Watts’ former mistress, Nichol Kessinger, is speaking up about him after his family was found lifeless in a minefield.
“He’s a liar. He lied about everything,” she said.
Kessinger was working in the environmental department with an Anadarko Petroleum contractor when she first met the 33-year-old Anadarko employee.
“When he spoke to me, he was very softspoken,” she told The Denver Post. “He appeared to be a good listener.”
Watts lied to Kessinger, telling her he was in the process of a divorce before entirely faking it. It wasn’t until news reports came out that she found out he was actually married with a 15-week pregnant wife.

Kessinger said, “I thought, ‘If he was able to lie to me and hide something that big, what else was he lying about?'”
The next day she called the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. Later on the news that night, Chris was arrested for all three murders. They found his wife in a makeshift grave at the oil site where he worked at.
Watts’ claims since have continued to be disputed. It’s unknown why he murdered his family.
