Comedian Chris Rock has revealed he is positive for COVID-19.
On Sunday, Rock went on Twitter to share the news. “Hey guys I just found out I have COVID, trust me you don’t want this,” he wrote. “Get vaccinated.”
The 56-year-old is already vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. He joked about it on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this past May. He called it. “The food stamps of vaccines.”
“You know I skipped the line,” Rock told the late-night host, “I didn’t care. I used my celebrity card, Jimmy. I was like, “Step aside Betty White. Step aside, old people.”
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is only one shot compared, compared to the other two options, Moderna and Pfizer. The distribution of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine was put on pause by the Food and Drug Administration and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on April 13. The halt happened after six women between the ages 18 and 48 developed a blood clot between six and 13 days of receiving the shot. The vaccines were re-approved 10 days later.
Twitter users have been sharing their feelings about Rock’s news in mixed ways. Some who have issues with the vaccine mocked Rock for getting a vaccine in the first place.
Twitter user @centexwil commented under a tweet that showed a clip of Rock doing stand-up comedy from 2009. In the clip, Rock is performing a joke about how the government is solely focused on money and not so much on the wellness of the U.S population.
“There’s no money in the cure. The money’s in the medicine,” Rock told his audience.
“Chris Rock should watch more Chris Rock,” @centexwill wrote.
Other Twitter users have come to his defense and supported him advocating for the vaccine.
Rock has not given any other updates regarding his condition.
