Chris Hemsworth and Emily Blunt
On Monday, between two pictures of his impressively muscled body, Chris Hemsworth shared a picture on Instagram of a painted nail as he took part in the “Polished Man” challenge.
“I’m a YGAP #polishedman. Being a @PolishedMan isn’t just about remembering to buy flowers, how many rounds you shout, or how much you lift. It’s about saying no to violence against children. That’s why this October I’m painting my nail and asking you to donate to help the 1 in 5 kids globally who are subjected to physical or sexual violence before they turn 18,” the The Avengers star father-of-three captioned under the post. He finished by nominating his brother Liam Hemsworth, friend Zac Efron, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Renner.
The Polished Man campaign was created by the Australian-based nonprofit YGAP, which aims to raise awareness for victims of childhood abuse. The charity claims that 90% of all sexual violence against children is perpetrated by men.
Elliot Costello, the CEO of YGAP, found inspiration for Polished Man challenge after meeting Thea, a young Cambodian girl who had recently been removed from an abusive environment by Hagar International, an international nonprofit that works to support vulnerable women and children. Thea painted Costello’s nails before saying goodbye and that gesture stuck with him. He then started painting one nail in honor of the child.
The charity has reportedly raised more than $446,790. Funds raised will go toward creating trauma recovery and prevention programs through donations to organizations like the New York Center for Children and World Vision.
