CHINESE ARTISTS CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR

The Chinese Lunar New Year on Jan. 28 marked the start of the Year of the Rooster. Men and women all across China are celebrating the new year this week. Artists gathered to perform a dragon dance around the lake at the Happy Valley theme park.

The Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival in China. Many workers receive a 7-day vacation from work to celebrate the festivities. It is expected that perhaps hundreds of millions of people will make the trek home to visit their families during this time.

In addition to a new animal each year, they are also paired with one of five elements. So for the first time in 60 years, this is the year of the Fire Rooster. Those born during the Year of the Rooster are said to be responsible, punctual and brave. 2018 will be the Year of the Dog, while 2019, the Year of the Pig.
