China Halts Release Of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

Quentin Tarantino‘s latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was released on July 26 in the U.S. The upcoming release of the film in China has been halted.

The film was set to debut in China on Friday, October 25, after being approved last month. Although there is no concrete reason why the film is being halted, this isn’t the first Tarantino film that has produced some backlash in the country.

100 CELEBRITIES WHO DIED IN 2019 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

Tarantino’s Django Unchained was released in China in 2013 but was pulled shortly after its release  due to “technical reasons.” It is widely understood that there were issues with the film’s content, including violence and nudity. The film was then re-edited and released, however, it didn’t do as well at the box office.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood could be facing similar problems. It’s possible that authorities may have found an issue with Bruce Lee‘s depiction in the film. Lee’s portrayal has received backlash from viewers, as well as Lee’s own daughter, Shannon Lee, who claimed that the depiction “marginalized” her father.

No official explanation or statement has been given for the decision to stop the release.
