Yesterday, Bryan Singer, who was fired as the credited director of Bohemian Rhapsody, took to Instagram to respond to the Queen biopic’s win at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards.
“What an honor. Thank you #HollywoodForeignPress,” he wrote as the caption alongside a photo of himself sitting in a directors chair and working with star Rami Malek on a scene that recreated Queen’s celebrated “I Want to Break Free” music video.
During Sunday’s ceremony, Bohemian Rhapsody took home two Golden Globes for Best Drama Film and Best Drama Actor for Malek. The film follows the rise of the British rock band Queen and late lead singer Freddie Mercury.
Nearly halfway into production, Singer, who did not attend the Golden Globes ceremony, was fired by 20th Century Fox from the film for failing to show up for work multiple times. It was also reported that Singer and Malek clashed although Singer has denied both allegations and has maintained that he had asked for time off to take care of one of his parent’s.
“I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services,” Singer said in a statement at the time.

Singer was replaced by Eddie the Eagle director Dexter Fletcher, but due to union rules, Singer remains the credited director.
Over the years, Singer has repeatedly been accused of sexual misconduct. As in 2014, a Los Angeles court dropped a sex abuse case against him by an anonymous actor of the grounds that there was no legal basis for it. In another lawsuit that was dropped, Singer was accused of sexually abusing 17-year-old actor Michael Egan III. Singer has continued to deny any wrongdoing and was reported to have recently secured a job directing a remake of an 80s action flick Red Sonja.
