Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to star in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

PITT & DICAPRIO TO STAR IN TARANTINO FILM

Both actors have worked with the auteur previously, with Pitt starring in 2009’s Inglorious Basterds and DiCaprio in 2012’s Django Unchained. In Once, DiCaprio plays former TV Western star Rick Dalton and Pitt, his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. The story is set in 1969 Los Angeles.

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old,” the director explained in The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

The film is set for release on Aug. 9, 2019, and is just getting underway with its production. As for the plot, Tarantino says it takes place “at the height of hippy Hollywood… Both [characters] are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor…Sharon Tate.”

Tate was an actress and the wife of director Roman Polanski who was infamously murdered in 1969 by members of the Manson Family, also on Aug. 9. She was stabbed to death along with four other people who were staying at her home. At her time of death, Tate was nearly nine months pregnant with Polanski’s son.

As with Tarantino’s hit Inglorious Basterds, which grossed more than $321 million at the global box office, audiences can expect the truth to be bent in ways that only Tarantino can imagine.

The director recently found himself in hot water when audio of him attempting to reclassify the definition of rape, and assert that Polanski’s 13-year-old victim “wanted to have” sex with the director. He has since apologized for his 2003 remarks.
