Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging dead in his apartment in Mumbai by a domestic worker on Sunday. He was 34 years-old and his death was ruled a suicide by local police.
A representative of the actor told CNN, “It pains us to share that Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us. We request his fans to keep him in their thoughts and celebrate his life, and his work as they have done so far. We request the media to help us maintain privacy at this moment of grief.”
The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi tweeted on June 14, “Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
Singh and celebrity stylist Sapna Bhavnani paired for the biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in 2016 and became good friends. Bhavnani posted on Instagram on with the actor and wrote, “It’s no secret Sushant was going through very tough times for the last few years. No one in the industry stood up for him nor did they lend a helping hand. To post about him today is the biggest display of how shallow the industry really is. No one here is your friend. RIP ✨.”
Singh is best known for his role in Pavitra Rishta from 2009 to 2014. He starred in Bollywood’s Kai Po Che! and was most recently in Drive on Netflix. He finished filming movie Dil Bechara alongside Sanjana Sanghi, but no release date has been set yet.
