Ben Affleck Returns To The DCEU As Batman In ‘The Flash’

After the DCEU’s failure of 2017’s Justice League and the announcement that Robert Pattinson would be taking over the title role of the upcoming DCEU film The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, it seemed like Ben Affleck had finally decided to step down as the massively iconic comic book character Batman. This was seemingly made official when Affleck confirmed in 2019 that he would no longer be in the role. However, on Aug. 20, it was announced that Affleck would be returning to play the in the upcoming DCEU movie The Flash starring Ezra Miller.

The announcement was first made when the director of the film Andy Muschietti revealed the news during an interview with Vanity Fair. Muschietti stressed the importance of this version of Batman’s relationship with The Flash. “He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” he said.

This is not even the first shocking announcement for fans of the Batman character, as it was previously reported that Zack Snyder’s original cut of Justice League would finally be released on the streaming service HBO Max. And, fans were even more excited when it was announced that actor Michael Keaton would be finally returning to portray his iconic version of Batman for the first time since director Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992.

According to Muschietti, The Flash will be traveling through multiple different dimensions during the story of the film, where he will meet a large handful DC’s famous characters, with each one being a different version from the other. Although The Flash does not have an official release date yet, fans can expect more information regarding the film and Batman’s actual role within it at the upcoming DC Fandome event on Aug. 22 and Sept. 12.
