Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Plans To Demolish ‘Embarrassment’ Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino In 2020

The mayor of Atlantic City Marty Small is none too happy about what he calls “the biggest eyesore in town” – the former Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino – and plans for its eventual demolition in 2020. He states, “My administration’s goal is to tear Trump Plaza down,” calling it an “embarrassment and a blight” to the city. President Donald Trump severed ties with the city in 2009, and the establishment has sat unattended to for many years. It is now currently owned by billionaire Carl Icahn, who bought out the property from bankruptcy.

Trump sued in Oct. 2014 to have his name removed from being used for the building. At this point, there us little reason to keep the building standing, given that his other formally owned casinos in the city have assumed new brands and now operate under the Golden Nugget – once Trump Marina – and Hard Rock, formally, Trump Taj Mahal.

Although, Trump Plaza was under consideration for the wrecking ball two years ago, Icahn has failed to obtain a demolition permit in order to move the process along. Its worn out carpets and slight outline of Trump’s name are all that remain of the once opulent but failing casino. No set date to begin the demolition of the Trump Plaza has been announced.
