Alec Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, took to social media on Sunday night to address accusations stating that Hilaria was faking her Hispanic heritage.
While not referring to Hilaria directly, Alec posted an eight-minute video on Instagram, calling on his followers to “consider the source” when reading online accusations.
“There are things that have been said lately about people that I love, that I care about deeply, which are just ridiculous.”
This comes after journalist Tracie Egan Morrissey questioned Hilaria Baldwin’s heritage, posting a series of videos to her Instagram story of Hilaria speaking in different variations of a Hispanic accent and questioning her parents’ background. Hilaria responded to these allegations on her own Instagram, further explaining her childhood and upbringing.
“I was born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain. My parents and siblings live in Spain and I chose to live here in the USA.”
In her Instagram, video, she explained that she was born “Hillary” but grew up being called “Hilaria” by her parents, leading to her officially changing her name to “Hilaria.” She also set the record straight that she is a “white girl” but also grew up with Hispanic culture in her household.
“This is a country of a lot of different cultures and I think that we can be different parts of ourselves with different people,” she said. “I feel really lucky that I grew up with two cultures.”
