After Suffering From Hearing Loss, Paul Simon Says He May Never Perform Again

Paul Simon, 81, has revealed that he is currently experiencing hearing loss in his left ear – and may never perform again.

The loss occurred while he was recording his new album, Seven Psalms. He assumed that this was temporary and that his hearing would return, but so far that has not been the case. “Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” he told the London Times. “So everything became more difficult.”

At first, Simon was frustrated with his hearing loss, but because he thought it would pass, he was not angry.

Now, he has to face the possibility that he may not be able to perform again.

Simon has confessed that he does not enjoy performing all of his famous songs during concerts, so he is not upset over the fact that he may not be able to perform live again. Fans typically enjoy hearing his classics and when he doesn’t perform them it causes a negative reaction from the crowds. His classics that fans love include “You Can Call Me Al,” “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” and “Graceland.”

Simon says Covid-19 has negatively affected his health and that he is still trying to recover from it.

The last time Simon toured was in 2018, which he announced at the time would be his last tour due to wanting to spend more time with his wife, Edie Brickell, and family.

His 15th album, Seven Psalms, was released on May 19. It has seven pieces to it and is meant to be listened to together and in order. His inspiration for the album came from a dream. The album explores ideas of spirituality, mortality and life itself.
