3 Biggest U.S. Movie Theaters Chains Will No Longer Require Masks For Vaccinated Customers

The three major U.S. movie theater chains have removed mask mandates for vaccinated customers. This comes a little over two weeks after the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks indoors. The moviegoing industry is the latest in a group of companies to lift their mask mandates.

AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Regal Cinemas each made statements on their websites affirming that, while vaccinated moviegoers do not have to wear a mask, those who are not vaccinated are still required to. Other COVID-19 protocols, such as cleaning and social-distancing, will still be in effect.

AMC released a statement on their website that said, “In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are not required for guests who are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated, we ask that you continue to wear a mask throughout the theater unless actively enjoying food or drinks.”

Cinemark and Regal Cinemas also posted similar statements on their websites.

The movie theater chains are still subject to state and local laws, which may currently be different than CDC guidelines.

It seems that theaters and movie studios are finally returning to a kind of normalcy after the pandemic halted production and moviegoing. Cinemas are hoping for a rebound in revenue this Memorial Day, as two big films, Cruella and A Quiet Place II come out this weekend.

The former is a prequel story to 101 Dalmations and the latter is a sequel to John Krasinski‘s blockbuster thriller, A Quiet Place.
