After weeks of teasing, Shakira premiered her new song “Chantaje,” in collaboration with Maluma.
The two Colombians singers released the sexy track “Chantaje” (“blackmail” in English) on Friday. The 39-year-old songstress is going back to her roots, releasing her new Spanish language single, written and produced by herself and Maluma, working with Kevin Jimenez, Chan “El Genio” and Kenai. The single, featuring a reggaeton-tribal sound, has all the signs of becoming a chart-topping hit.
The new single follows Shakira’s recent successful collaboration with Carlos Vives on “La Bicicleta,” which was released earlier this year. Since then, Shakira has been teasing the long-rumored collaboration with a series of clues on Instagram.
It is hard to forget her incredible duets with pop stars Beyonce (“Beautiful Liar”) and Rihanna (“Can’t Remember To Forget You”). This time, Shakira chose Maluma, who is currently the hottest name in Latin pop — a modern version of Ricky Martin, close to Enrique Iglesias.
The music video for “Chantaje” was recently filmed in Barcelona, Spain, directed by Juame De La Iguana. A release date for the video has not been announced yet.
Shakira, who hails from Barranquilla, Colombia, is currently back in the studio working on her forthcoming 11th studio album upcoming, rumored to be fully recorded in Spanish. The album will follows the singer 2014 self-titled album, featuring “Dare (La La La)”.
