Whitney Houston We Have A Problem!

We were all waiting with bated breath for the epic return of pop singer Whitney Houston. After all, who doesn’t love a comeback story?

I had already imagined Houston’s comeback story in my mind months before she actually returned: Whitney, who had hit rock bottom, would triumphantly return to reclaim her place at the top of the billboard charts. Everyone would smile and clap and Whitney would get lots of magazine covers, feature stories, and a 30-minute spot on Oprah’s couch.

I think we were all excited to see her succeed. I sure was. I vividly remember the days when I crimped my hair and passionately lip-synced I Wanna Dance with Somebody into my hairbrush.

Unfortunately, Houston did not succeed. Fans paid $170 per ticket to see the old crooner belt out her famous songs at the O2 Arena in London. But during a rendition of her now classic song I Will Always Love You, Houston missed the high notes and her voice slowly corroded as she made her way through several attempts of the song.

Things only got more embarrassing and awkward when she attempted to apologize to the crowd. According to People.com Houston announced mid-song, "Oh, it’s going to come. I wanna do it – but [my voice] just doesn’t want to. I have long talks with her. Well, tonight she’s getting a little temperamental."

Uh, what? I want my $170 back, please.

However, Houston did have some valid, redeemable excuses for her less-than-satisfactory performance. Apparently, she has had a respiratory sickness for most of her European Tour. She also had some not-so-redeemable excuses: Apparently the air conditioning makes her "lose her soprano" (okay, what does that even mean?).

At any rate, Houston’s voice is understandably deteriorating. I mean, she is much older now and she has been through some tough times. I am sure it has taken a toll on her vocal cords.

Perhaps it is time for the old diva to quit while she is [barely] ahead. Maybe if Houston stops singing, we can all remember her as she once was: an iconic and wonderful performer. Or maybe she can sign a contract with E! and give reality TV another go (minus Bobby, of course). At any rate, I would prefer to not hear about the amazing Whitney Houston embarrassing herself in front of crowds of people ever again.

Let’s not taint the memory of what once was with comeback tours, okay Whitney? It is just far too sad.
