There’s often a fine line between celebrities and politicians. We know celebs who have successfully gone into politics, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger who went from being the body building power house actor to the 38th governor of California. How he made this transformation successfully still boggles my mind. However, celebrities have a certain magical stardom, that when used properly, allows them to get away with almost anything. Though I’d trust him more to save my life than to run a part of my country, I admire him for having the desire to be more than just a body-builder.
And just as some celebs want to be politicians, some politicians want to be celebrities. Some of these politicians simply have ulterior motives and are merely trying to catapult themselves into their next political move, but others, after having a taste of stardom, just can’t quench their thirst for more. With Sarah Palin, I haven’t quite yet figured out which one it is that keeps her looking for more. After receiving so much negativity for being McCain’s ridiculous sidekick, she is back and bigger than ever – as a celebrity. She’s been everywhere and after her recent appearance and comedic routine on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, she’s beginning to show people that she’s more than just a right-winger. But what she’s been doing is not enough. Sarah Palin wants more.
Recently, Palin has been pitching a TV series to Fox, NBC, ABC, and all the major networks for her proposed project with Mark Burnett (Survivor). The TV show that Palin is trying to launch would cover Alaska all it’s history and cultural uniqueness. The show would be the Discovery-channel like but would also feature Palin and her family. I can see why this would make the networks nervous. No one would want to be hosting Palin’s TV show as she announces that she’s running for president for 2012. It just wouldn’t do them justice. In fact, I don’t think any of them, even Fox, would want to host Palin’s TV show, period.
Both Palin and her proposed show are a gamble, and both slightly annoying as well. However, I really don’t think for Palin that it’s a political move. I don’t think that she’s stupid enough to actually think she has a shot at the presidency. I think though that for Palin, this is truly a celeb move. I think she’s had a taste and can’t get enough. And while this makes me slightly nauseous, all the power to her for really trying.
