The inexplicably sudden marriage of Kim Kardashian to whats-his-name last Saturday was a sad day for America. The whole situation reeks of a really disgusting, self-important and shallow publicity stunt. Kim had sex with a really bad R&B singer, it was taped, everyone saw it, and now her whole family is famous. So I’m still confused as to why the marriage of this woman who is famous for being famous should mean anything to anyone.
Now, after the long anticipated wedding extravaganza is finally over, everyone is buzzing about the groom’s family and how the wedding reportedly left them “appalled.” The Saturday wedding featured loads of cameras, bedazzled jewels and more than 200 TV crew members — a spectacle that apparently shocked the New Jersey Nets star's loved ones who were expecting an intimate ceremony, Us Weekly reported Wednesday.
Humphries' family "mostly looked appalled by the entire thing," a source told Us. "Everybody felt awkward, like it was all for the cameras and more like a TV show than a wedding." Although I would agree that the wedding certainly sounds like a dreadful circus, what did the groom’s family expect? Were they aware that their precious son was marrying a Kardashian sister? According to Us, Kardashian repeatedly told guests the overly excessive ceremony —which featured a Swarovski crystal cross at the altar and "rhinestones up to wazoo" — was "our version of the royal wedding." The New York Post reports that Humphries' friends have even taken to calling him "Kate Middleton" since he "married into royalty."
I hope America can do better. The mere mention of the Kardashian wedding as the American equivalent to the Royal Wedding is such a dismal comparison. Surely there are more inspiring and interesting famous couples somewhere that we actually think of as American royalty. The Kardashians can’t be the symbol of American-personified, can they?
At least the British Royals try to seem like genial, decent people. The Kardashians can’t even do that. I view the display more as America’s royal disgrace. To make matters more shameful, KimKsuperstar.com, the "official" website for Kim's sex tape, received two million visitors over the wedding weekend, a big boost from the 300,000 visitors it typically sees in a month. Do we really want this family masquerading as the American royal family?
Kim’s played her ace with this hyped wedding stunt. Sure, the family has launched several business ventures from their unwarranted fame and made plenty of money, but they live for the limelight. The only way the Kardashians are going to stay in the spotlight is if they continue to manufacture drama, and how can anything top Kim’s wedding frenzy? A happily married and permanently dull Kim K is not going to hold our interest for very long. The wedding is over — now for the irreconcilable differences.
